Tanko hoan gijutsu yoran. 4. Konai kasai. (Handbook of safety technology of coal mimes. 4. Mine fires)
Of safety technologies of coal mines summarized as a handbook, described is the safety technology on mine fires. The mine fire is a phenomenon that combustible materials burn and the fire spreads along the mine roadway or the working face. Heat, smoke and gas affect each other and their interaction is complicated. Danger of fire spread in a large range is predicted because in the mine there are combustible materials which are installed in sequence as timbers, conveyor belts, cables and a large amount of ventilation is conducted. Also, there are hot air flow and gas including a lot of harmful ingradients on the leeward of the mine, and the high possibility of a serious accident is predicted. The colsed space which stores heat and is filled with gas makes escape and fire-fighting difficult. Advanced auto fire detecting systems have recently appeared. As well as prevention of the fire, prevention of the fire spread is important, and therefore measures against the fire spread are taken such as making the inside of mine roads non-combustible and fire-retardant, making fire-resistant and fire-preventable mine roadways, making water spray zones. In addition to chemicals, sand, rock dust and water for extinguishing fires, foam is introduced to the fire-fighting technology. Use of liquid nitrogen and inert gas is also under study. Some accidents and analysis of the causes are described. 109 refs., 52 figs., 15 tabs.
