Changing Patterns in Housing. A Look at New Choices
Four planned residential developments are described and illustrated: Wesleyan Hills of Middletown, Connecticut; Heritage Woods of Avon and Farmington, Connecticut; Talcott Village of Farmington, Connecticut; and Northfield Green of Manchester, Connecticut. These developments are described by their developers in terms of the planning concepts and special features incorporated into the developments. The projects range from 214 housing units on 42 acres to 1200 units on 400 acres. Features exemplified in the projects are the planned unit development approach, condominium ownership or mixed housing types, and preservation of natural and common recreation open space areas under resident association management. The report also discusses changing regional trends in residential development such as proportionally more multi-family than single family housing and acceptance of cluster developments. (Author)
