The report presents statistics on housing and household characteristics from the 1989 American Housing Survey National Sample (AHS-N), for the United States, inside and outside MSA's, urban and rural, and the four census regions. The AHS was designed to provide a current series of information on the size and composition of the housing inventory, the characteristics of its occupants, changes in the inventory resulting from new construction, indicators of housing and neighborhood quality, and the characteristics of recent movers.
