Bridge Stress Range History and Diaphragm Stiffening Investigation
An analysis of data related to the dynamic response of a specific highway bridge is presented. Stress range data obtained under actual traffic conditions is used to estimate the fatigue life of the structure. The magnitude and distribution of stresses produced by control H20 and HS20 vehicles were also measured. Some of the main conclusions are that the stress level produced by actual traffic are considerably lower than those produced by the control vehicles, and that the actual stresses are low enough so as to have a negligible effect on the fatigue life of the bridge.
