Construction Trends in Residential/Commercial Buildings
The study presents construction trends in residential/commercial buildings based on information from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Foundation's annual survey of builder practices, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Census Bureau, and contractors for these agencies. Discussed for these residential housing units are types of space heating and cooling systems and types of fuels installed; frequency of fireplace installations in new residential constructions; trends in the level of insulation as measured by the R-value being installed in ceilings, exterior wall cavities, and under floors; appliances -- ranges, microwave ovens, and clothes dryers -- being installed by builders; types of exterior wall construction; materials used for interior wall framing in newly constructed residential units; trends in the levels of window glazing; types of water heating fuels; and characteristics of residential' construction that were built with a natural gas central heating system.
