National Dam Safety Program. Westcott Reservoir Dam (Inventory Number NY 1471), Seneca River Basin, Onondaga County, New York. Phase I Inspection Report
The dam consists of an earthen embankment, approximately 2,826 feet in length, with a maximum height of 39.5 feet. The impoundment is perched on a prominent hilltop which is surrounded by a densely populated residential area. This facility provides local storage of potable water for use in the water distribution system of the City of Syracuse. The dam consists of an earthen embankment which was originally constructed with a gunite liner. Leakage through the gunite liner necessitated the installation of a nylon reinforced hypalon rubber liner over the gunite lining. Water is fed to this facility through a transmission line which is connected to the water source at Skaneateles Lake. There is no spillway at the Westcott Reservoir Dam. The hydrologic/hydraulic analysis indicates that the impoundment will contain the runoff from the Probable Maximum Flood without overtopping the structure.
