Residential Fire Sprinklers Retrofit Demonstration Project. Phase 1. Multifamily Structures Case Studies
The United States Fire Administration funded the design and installation of quick-response residential fire sprinklers in multifamily residences undergoing rehabilitation in low-income sections of Austin, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Prince George's County, Maryland; and St. Louis, Missouri. The major goals of the project were to: investigate technical, regulatory, and administrative barriers to residential fire sprinkler installation in multifamily buildings undergoing rehabilitation; evaluate residential fire sprinkler design standards as they relate to multifamily building rehabilitation; demonstrate the latest residential fire sprinkler technology; and enhance the fire safety of buildings that house low-income high-risk urban populations.
