Evaluation of Grouted Pile Friction from Grouted Section Tests
Data from grouted section tests at the North Rankin A site were analyzed in order to determine parameters for static and cyclic axial response analyses of proposed insert piles in the underlying calcarenite layers. The paper describes briefly the method of interpretation of the data and the use of laboratory test data to try and reproduce theoretically the observed response. The development of a cyclic degradation model is outlined. It is concluded that cyclic degradation of skin friction may cause a severe reduction of insert pile capacity and that insert piles of reasonable length may not have sufficient capacity to adequately support the maximum storm loads. However, many of the assumptions made in the analysis are conservative, and no allowance has been made for either the development of end-bearing resistance on the inserts or the resistance of the existing driven piles and mudmat.
