Interaction of Shore-Parallel Geotextile Tubes and Beaches Along the Upper Texas Coast
This Coastal and Hydraulic Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) summarizes initial lessons learned about ongoing field monitoring of shore- parallel geotextile tubes (GTs) constructed as beach dune cores in Galveston County, TX. Beach profile data and aerial photography collected between 1999 and 2007 are examined to evaluate the interaction of the GTs with beaches and the protection provided to public infrastructure and other landward improvements. Specific goals of the monitoring are to determine (a) if the GTs have exacerbated erosion of adjacent beaches by preventing release of littoral sediment or by increasing wave reflection and scour and (b) if GTs hinder post- storm beach recovery.
