Evaluation of Overlaid Bridge Decks with Ground-Penetrating Radar
The use of ground-penetrating radar in condition surveys was evaluated on non-overlaid and overlaid bridge decks, with emphasis on the latter type. The findings presented in this report show that the technique is, beyond doubt, relatively effective in locating concrete delaminations, even when they are covered with an overlay, and, with little further work to improve the speed of operations, will constitute a rapid, nondestructive means for surveying the condition of bridge decks.
