This citation summarizes a one-page announcement of technology available for utilization. The objectrive was to provide a method of detecting and locating miners trapped underground following a mine disaster. The approach taken was to developa surface deployed system which senses the vibrations caused by a trapped miner pounding on the roof of the mine and effectively determines the miner's location. If trapped underground, a miner would strike the roof of the mine with any implement at his disposal.
