Laboratory Investigation of Fracture Processes in Hydraulic Fracturing. Annual Report, April 1994-April 1995
The main objectives of the project are (1) to identify and characterize various fracture tip processes and construct Fracture Mechanisms Map (FMM), (2) to model FMM and propose fracture propagation criteria for hydraulic fracture design models, (3) to improve hydraulic fracture monitoring techniques, and (4) to propose optimized fracture treatment laboratory methods to be tested and applied in field operations. The objectives for the first year of this four-year project were (1) to establish polyaxial test facilities and procedures, and (2) to provide evidence of the process zone in hydraulic fracture tests through microstructure analysis.
