Detecting Defects and Deterioration in Highway Structures
The synthesis will be of interest to bridge inspectors, maintenance engineers, designers, and others concerned with determining the condition of existing highway bridges. Information is presented on potential defects and deterioration in various components of bridges and on field and laboratory tests that are available to test bridge components. The various types of materials used in constructing highway bridges are subject to defects and deterioration. The report of the Transportation Research Board gives the common defects and types of deterioration encountered in concrete, steel and wrought iron, and timber components of bridges and discusses available field and laboratory procedures that can be used for detecting defects and deterioration.
