A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
U. S. Route 220, From: 0.238 Miles South Route 220 (Franklin Road) to: 0.230 Miles South Route 419, City of Roanoke and Roanoke County, Virginia
The proposed construction is an extension of Route 220 which connects with the Interstate Route 581 Spur. This project begins at the Roanoke River and Norfolk and Western Railway yards in the City of Roanoke and terminates 0.2 miles south of Route 419 in Roanoke County. It is determined that no significant change of character of the area, relative to the construction of this project, is anticipated. This project is not expected to have any significant impact on local air or water pollution and the area water table is not expected to be affected. Adverse effects which will probably take place, and cannot be avoided, are construction noise, travel delays or detours, temporary inconvenience due to utility adjustments, erosion due to inclement weather, and some temporary pollution of the Roanoke River due to bridge construction. Modern construction techniques and procedures, however, tend to minimize the effects on the environment by early seeding of slopes and providing detours with good alignment and grades.
