The Louisiana Experimental Base Project is a research study evaluating the design/performance characteristics of three types of base courses as incorporated into comparable flexible pavement systems on a full-scale test road. Fourteen different test sections were constructed in order to evaluate the study variables. The variables of the experimental design included base course type (soil-cement, stabilized sand clay gravel, and black base), design life (5, 10, and 15 years), and surface thickness (three and one-half and five and one-half inches (8.9 and 15.0 cm). The test road is U.S. Route 71 south of the City of Alexandria. This interim report documents the design, construction, as-built properties of the components and total road section, and current traffic trends at the Louisiana Experimental Base Project.
