Factors effecting pitting corrosion of nickel and nickel base alloys are discussed in terms of exposure to chlorides in general and sea water in particular. Emphasis is placed on methods for the passivation of these alloys in high temperature applications such as gas turbines. Problems associated with stress corrosion are also presented.
