Loss of Load Carrying Capacity of Highways as a Result of Frost Action
The report describes research comprised principally of the conduct of periodic plate bearing tests at 300 different test sites on various in-service flexible pavements and results of a study of flexible pavement deflections on a number of in-service pavements over a period of several years. The purposes of the research were to gain knowledge of the structural behavior of flexible pavements during the critical spring months and to determine whether or not bearing strength or deflection can be used as a measure of pavement adequacy.
