Improving Federal Dam Safety
This report is in response to Part II of President Carter's April, 1977 memorandum to heads of Federal Agencies with dam safety responsibilities. The purpose of this report is to provide a comprehensive review and to recommend means of assuring effectiveness of current Federal Agency practices and procedures which could effect any aspect of Federal Dam Safety for new and existing dams. The ultimate purpose of this review is to assure that dam safety is given proper consideration by the Federal Agencies in the carrying out of their responsibilities, providing the greatest possible dam safety consistent with the current state of knowledge available to the scientific and engineering community and with available financial resources.
