A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Results from experimental and theoretical investigations of ground shock loading on concrete plates are presented in the report. Steel reinforced concrete plates with different stiffness were subjected to ground shock from buried explosives. Both the free field behavior and the interaction with the structure have been studied. Simple equations were derived to analyze results from experiments, considering deformations and velocity of concrete plates as well as pressure and impulse loading on the structure. A comparison between the measured and the calculated values for the free field pressure shows a good agreement when the distance to the charge is short, but with increased distance to the charge there is a less agreement between measured and calculated values. The behavior of the structure also shows a very good agreement with the theoretical results for velocity and deformation of the structure. The results indicate that the derived equations give satisfactory results for the analysis of a buried reinforced concrete structure subjected to ground shock.
