Analysis of Rigid Rafts Supported by Granular Piles
Solutions for the magnitude and rate of settlement of rigid foundations supported by soil reinforced with granular piles are presented. An analytic solution using the theory of elasticity is developed for the settlement of the foundation and expressions for evaluating the moment and shear distributions across the foundation are given. A solution for the increase of the rate of settlement due to the presence of the granular piles has been found by a numerical solution of Biot's equations of consolidation.
