Special Directive 85-4 established the Museum Collections Repository at the Western Archeological and Conservation Center as a multiregional conservation and collections management facility providing services for field areas located in arid parts of the Western Region (Arizona, Nevada, southern California), the Southwest Region (New Mexico, western Texas), and the Rocky Mountain Region (Utah, western Colorado). The Repository is responsible for the curatorial and conservation services required for the management of the resources it holds. The Repository programs include curatorial services, conservation laboratories, and a research library with archives. The Repository programs are the primary mission of the Center. The Center also provides archeological studies and cultural resource management support for field areas in the Western Region. The plan describes the resources at the Center, discusses deficiencies, and provides project statements and support documents to correct critical needs.
