Timber-Frame Houses Especially for Allergic Families
A strategy for dwellings adapted to allergic persons (families) has been developed and a case-study on the indoor air quality (IAQ) in six (6) prefabricated timber-frame houses has been performed. A list of criteria for the IAQ was established before the houses were designed and constructed. The aim with building the houses was that one year after completion the IAQ should be a higher level than in an ordinary modern timber-frame house. The preliminary results of the study indicate that the houses for allergic persons (families) have a good IAQ, but it is obvious that other sources than building materials e.g. furniture and activities in the house influence on the IAQ regarding volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde, especially over time.
