Ophogingen en Ophoogmaterialen (Embankments and Materials)
The CROW-workgroup 'Embankments and materials' has attempted to improve this situation and, to this end, on the basis of specific functions, has further specified the definition of embankments for various construction parts. Based on extensive study, they subsequently formulated constructive/elementary material performance requirements for these construction parts. By testing the properties of the materials and comparing them with the requirements, the workgroup finally determined the suitability of twelve potential embankments. This concerned: sand silty, flugsand, incineration bottom ash, coal bottom ash, coal fly ash, sieve sand, minestone, boulder clay, loss, clay, (recycled) soil and sludge spoil. In the course of their duties the workgroup were presented with the environmental requirements which had, in the meantime, been drawn up within the framework of the Building Materials Act. Therefore, an additional test was performed on the twelve materials mentioned with regard to environmental protection.
