A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The report covers the existing conditions and recommendations for the main house, Lawnfield, at the site. It does this by discussing the chronological development of the site and buildings from the acquisition of the Dickey farm by James A. Garfield, through the historical society ownership, to its establishment as a national historic site. Information was gathered from abstracted portions of the Historic Resource Study, further historical research, analyzing historical photographs and drawings, paint and wallpaper investigations, and on-site study. A description of the physical elements and conditions of the site and buildings was made, again focusing on the main house from on-site inspections, testing, and recording. This information is presented in text, charts, drawings, and photographs, all of which are necessary for the complete understanding of the findings. Recommendations for treatment and a cost estimate to accomplish the work are included.
