Behavior, Analysis, and Design of Steel-Deck-Reinforced Concrete Diaphragms
The study is a second phase of research dealing with the investigation of floor diaphragms constructed with steel-deck-reinforced concrete. A principal objective of the study was to develop design recommendations, based on experimental and analytical results. Twenty-three full size diaphragms were tested. Key experimental results needed for comparison with analytical expressions are presented, including load vs. displacement results for the imposed reversed cyclic displacement, initial or elastic stiffness values, and ultimate strengths of the diaphragms. Predictive equations for stiffness and strength of SDRC diaphragms, developed during Phase I of the research, are analyzed to verify and define the components of the equations. A survey of steel deck manufacturers was performed to obtain information regarding design practices in the industry. Recommendations are made regarding design parameters.
