Field Study of a Predeflected Steel-Concrete Composite Bridge
Field tests were conducted on a skewed simple-span bridge to evaluate existing design standards for predeflected ('Preflex') steel-concrete composite beams. The test program consisted of midspan vertical displacement (deflection) measurements of these beams under initial and long-term dead loads, and visual inspection of the concrete for crack development. The results of 2 years of observations are presented and compared to theoretical values. These results show that the structure's initial and long-term performance has been satisfactory.
