Management Plan Environmental Assessment, Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum
Since its inception, the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum (the museum) has sought ways to preserve and portray the historic heritage of the American railroader. With the advent of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Heritage Preservation Commission (the commission) and its partners, the museum has an opportunity to redefine its goals and to play an expanded role in terms of historic preservation and interpretation of the story. One of the major goals of the commission is to develop ways that the preservation and interpretation of industrial-heritage-related resources and scenic resources of the area can be used to establish opportunities for new initiatives in interpretation, education, tourism, and economic development. The museum retained the services of the National Park Service to help develop a management plan whereby it could assume an effective and important role in efforts to improve and enhance the resources that will draw visitors to the town. The museum presents its proposed draft management plan in the document.
