Evaluation of Water Quality for Two St. Johns River Tributaries Receiving Septic Tank Effluent, Duval County, Florida
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects on water quality in two tributaries to the St. Johns River resulting from the replacement of residential septic tank systems by a centralized sewer system. The study, as planned, was divided into two phases. The first phase was to document baseline water-quality conditions prior to connection of targeted areas to a centralized sewer system. The second phase was to document changes in water-quality constituent concentrations that may result from installation of sanitary sewer systems and removal of septic tank systems in targeted areas. Unforeseen delays, however, in the installation of sanitary sewer systems affected evaluation of hydrologic and water-quality conditions following planned sanitary sewer system installation. This report, therefore, documents baseline hydrologic and water-quality conditions occurring in 2000-2002 prior to removal of septic tanks and installation of a sanitary sewer system.
