Computer-Aided Design of Community Health Centers
The paper describes the use of computer-aided design (CAD) to semi-automate the briefing and design process of community health centers, and at the same time improve the competence of the resulting designs. Computer libraries of community health center equipment and rooms have been created, from which departments and, in turn, whole building designs may be assembled. Each department and whole building design is then also stored in a computer library. To each room is attached an equipment list and useful briefing guidance. A new project may be a repeat of a previous building designed by the method, or be assembled from departments drawn from the library, or be created from scratch by assembling rooms and items of equipment from the library. Once the manipulation of the layout and content of a project is complete, drawings and schedules are a semi-automatic by-product.
