Earthquake Response of Embankment Dams: Data Report for Centrifuge Tests RD08/1 and RD08/2

The document reports the data for two centrifuge model earthquake tests carried out on the Cambridge Geotechnical Centrifuge (Schofield, 1980) in early 1982. Each model was a fine sand embankment dam. Water was used as the pore fluid. Seepage through the dam occurred before, during, and after each earthquake. A different sequence of earthquake magnitudes was applied in each test. The first model was subjected to 20 earthquakes of various magnitudes. Moderate pore pressure changes were observed within the embankment, and relatively minor crest settlements were seen. The second model was subjected to 4 large earthquakes. Major damage was seen, with possible liquefaction in parts of the dam.
