A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In April 1981 the staff of the Pasadena Public Library in California began a 2-year study of the Pasadena community and its library operations in order to develop long and short range plans that match library services with changing community information needs. A 5-year plan was compiled with nine major goals related to developing a user-oriented library, increasing community awareness of library services, providing community information services, utilizing branch libraries as neighborhood information centers, enhancing the library's educational role in the community, exploring cooperative arrangements with other libraries and community organizations, incorporating new information technology in the library, developing library materials collections, and increasing staff productivity. Objectives and activity steps for implementing these goals were also developed. This document presents the library mission statement; its 5-year plan; extensive information on the Pasadena community and library system; and the results of a community analysis project which included a citizen's survey, community interviews, and a library user's survey. Appendices provide lists of community organizations interviewed by library staff and library staff participants in the community analysis project; demographic information; a copy of the Library Bill of Rights; tables of library statistics; and further data from the Pasadena citizen's survey. A 57-item bibliography is also provided.
