The national perspective on urbanization showed the progress of metropolitan decentralization of population and employment in aggregate, but the examination of regional difference in urban change and of fortunes of individual cities suggested that there has been a considerable variation in urban development by individual cities. Therefore the urban change for all SMEAs needs to be considered in more detail. For this purpose, the internal change within each metropolitan area was examined.
