Pier Moment-Rotation of Compact and Noncompact HPS70W I-Girders
The purpose of this research is to study the pier moment-rotation behavior of compact and noncompact I-shape bridge girders fabricated from high performance steel HPS70W. To accomplish the purpose, the research consists of two main objectives. The first objective of this research is to compare experimental laboratory moment-rotation tests and corresponding numerical moment-rotation finite element analysis of HPS70W steel components to current AASHTO LRFD moment-rotation equations (AASHTO, 1998 and interims through 2001). The second objective is to compare the experimental and numerical results to a recently proposed improved simplified inelastic design (Barth, et al., 2001).
