Hydraulic Roughness of Segmentally Lined Tunnels
Factors affecting the hydraulic performance of segmentally lined tunnels have been investigated. Fifteen tunnels were surveyed to provide data on tunnel geometry covering the four main types of tunnel lining segment used in the UK. Hydraulic tests were undertaken in five of the tunnels and covered three of the four types of lining segment. A good correlation was found between the measured geometry of segment alignment and the roughness deduced from hydraulic tests. Results indicate that the increase in hydraulic friction for segmental, compared to in-situ, linings is less than had been supposed. Design recommendations based on the results are given.
