Social Impacts of Land Development. An Initial Approach for Estimating Impacts on Neighborhood Usages and Perceptions
The report proposes an approach and data collection procedures to enable urban planners to project the social impacts of proposed land developments. It identifies how the physical environment of a neighborhood may be changed by a proposed land development, and how these changes may effect the neighborhood as a social environment. It covers 7 areas of social impact (1) recreation patterns at public facilities, (2) recreation use of informal outdoor spaces, (3) shopping opportunities, (4) pedestrian dependency and mobility, (5) perceived quality of the natural environment, (6) personal safety and privacy, and (7) aesthetics and cultural values.
