The Capital Flyer Bus Service between the District of Columbia and Maryland and Virginia Counties in the Washington Metropolitan Area
A demonstration project entitled the Capital Flyer was designed to test and demonstrate that bus loop services can be useful transportation links between the center city and suburbs in metropolitan areas, providing rapid commuting both for center city and suburbs in metropolitan areas, providing rapid commuting both for suburbanites working in downtown employment areas and for inner city residents who, if given the opportunity, would commute to jobs in suburban employment areas. System design, frequency of service, fares, related employment development, equipment and service, fringe parking, shuttle and feeder bus systems, and public awareness were used as the variables in testing the methods by which project success could be best achieved.
