San Luis Unit, Central Valley Project, California
Authorized in 1960, construction started in 1962 on the San Luis Unit on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley in California to deliver supplemental water supplies principally for irrigation of about 600,000 acres of fertile land. The San Luis Unit consists of one major dam and reservoir, a forebay dam and reservoir, two detention dams and reservoirs, one pumping plant, two pump-generating plants, two major canals, a distribution and drainage collection system. A summary of environmental impacts is discussed.
