Overcoring Equipment and Techniques Used in Rock Stress Determination
Stress-relief techniques and instrumentation have been developed through many years of research in the U.S. Bureau of Mines and successfully used to determine the in situ state of stress in rock. This paper describes the drilling equipment and accessories for use with the U.S. Bureau of Mines three-component deformation borehole gage. Operation and calibration procedures for the deformation gage are discussed in detail. Site selection and overcoring procedures are included to provide a complete working knowledge for surface or underground applications. (Author)
