Tests of Commercially Available Cementitious Materials
Four commercially available cementitious materials, a natural cement, a slag cement, a portland blast-furnace slag cement, and a slag ground with an air-entraining agent, were tested to determine their physical and chemical properties and their effects on the properties of pastes, mortars, and concretes in which they were used. The materials were in some cases combined with a portland cement for testing and, in all cases, the test results were compared with similar results on pastes, mortars, and concretes containing an equal voluem of portland cement. The test results indicate that these commercially available materials can, under certain conditions, be used to replace, wholly or partially, the portland-cement component of concrete. (Author)
