A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The design of reinforced concrete flat slabs is studied with regard to flexure, punching shear, and deflection. The basis of the project was a comprehensive experimental program of slab tests to failure. Design expressions are developed to take account of the equivalent beam behavior of the slab, and the reduction in effective slab width close to exterior columns. Detailing procedures are presented which reflect the distribution of slab moments and torsion local to the columns.
