Design of Open Graded Friction Courses With Sulfur Extended Asphalt Binders
The combination of the anticipated shortage of asphalt cement and the projected abundance of sulfur has led to the investigation of the potential for substituting this element for the former in the paving industry. This research study was conducted to incorporate sulfur with asphalt to form Sulfur-Extended Asphalt (SEA) binders for use in Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) mixtures. The experimental design variable included aggregate type, asphalt cement, level of sulfur contents in the binder and method of preparing SEA binders.
