The report describes current research on practical uses of halogenated fire extinguishing agents by fire fighters and fundamental toxicity research studies designed to identify potential health problems arising from the use of halogenated agents. It consists of two groups of papers--those concerned with the fire-fighting applications of these agents and those concerned with the potential toxicological hazards resulting from the use of these agents. The applications papers present the engineering and fire protection points of view, describing the effectiveness of various Halons. The toxicity papers provide insight on safe circumstances of human exposure and on potential health problems that might be associated with actual exposure during fire control activities.
