Low Modulus Reinforcement of Concrete - Special Reference to Sisal Twines
This report is a presentation of work aimed at establishing the relative significance of the modulus of elasticity of the reinforcement phase in the reinforcement of concrete, identifying the factors that limit the applicability of low-modulus materials and formulating ways by which, at least, partial use of low modulus materials in concrete reinforcement can be made possible. The driving force has been the abundance and local availability of materials of this category in countries and to individuals whose ability to afford steel for all construction purposes is limited. The type of materials belonging to this category include natural organic and plastic materials. In this particular case twines of natural fibers, sisal, have been used in the study.
