U.S./U.S.S.R. Joint Studies on Plastic Films and Soil Stabilizers. Weathering Tests Conducted on Soil Stabilizers
The report is in three parts. The first was prepared in the Soviet Union. It comprises the results for field trials begun on August 28, 1979, and laboratory experiments on soil stabilizer specimens in the form of crusts or films formed as a result of treating sandy slopes of a drainage canal at Marupe collective farm near Riga, Latvia S.S.R. The second part was prepared in the United States from results of outdoor exposure tests conducted by the Bureau of Reclamation on soil stabilizers exchanged in the joint study. Tests were performed by the Bureau of Reclamation at the E&R (Engineering and Research) Center, Denver, Colorado. Results after 4 years of weathering are presented. The third part was compiled from the results of investigations carried out at the Laboratory of Chemical Techniques, All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Polymer Application in Land Reclamation and Water Management. Data are presented on the use of polycomplexes for the stabilization of soil surfaces during direct seeding of canal slopes.
