Negative Friction 'Downdrag on a Pile'
The report summarizes more than 4 years of research effort on negative skin friction. The primary objective of the research was to develop procedures for estimating the magnitude of pile downdrag and eliminating pile downdrag if it proves to be uneconomical in design considerations. The objective of this report is to provide interested engineers with a better understanding of the negative skin friction problem and a prediction method to be used in the design of pile foundations. A copy of 'A Manual on Prediction of Pile Downdrag on End Bearing Piles' prepared under the above research, is included in the appendix for the convenience of the reader.
