Reinforcement of Brick Walls Spanning Vertically--A Preliminary Investigation
The objectives of the experimental program presented in this paper were to: (a) investigate a cavity brick wall with standard dual limb ties; (b) investigate a cavity wall reinforced with an unbonded intermediate steel mullion consisting of a rectangular hollow section (R.H.S.) in the wall cavity; (c) develop and investigate a vertical shear connector to achieve shear transfer between the two leaves of the wall prior to cracking and function as bonded reinforcement for increased post-cracking strength and stiffness (Patent Application No. PG5960 by Uniquest, University of Queensland).
