Slope Stability in Cohesionless Materials During Earthquakes
Records of damage due to earthquakes include many examples of slope failures in cohesionless materials. Often these take the form of a slumping of the soil so that the general form is maintained, but the angle of slope is considerably reduced. The construction of embankments, cut slopes, dams and canals in regions of high seismic activity thus requires considerable attention to the possibility of slope deformations of this type resulting from a major earthquake shock. The report gives an analysis of the stability of slopes in such materials under the influence of any given acceleration. (Author)
