Loading History and Its Effects on Highway Bridges. Pilot Study
The magnitude of load, stress, impact and distribution of load on a composite steel beam bridge caused by regular truck traffic is studied in this report. Data were obtained by instrumenting 5 beams of an 8 beam bridge cross section with strain gages. In this pilot study report, a very limited number of 23 trucks was studied in detail. Comparison of test data and design values from AASHO Specifications are reported. The difference between static test truck and dynamic truck results are noted. Distribution factors are computed from a ratio of internal moment/beam and total external moment. (BPR abstract)
