Lewis Memorial Hospital Historic Structure Report
Architectural Resources Group (ARG) has prepared the Lewis Memorial Hospital Historic Structure Report (HSR) to inform the rehabilitation of the HVAC systems as well as to serve as a guide for ongoing preservation and maintenance of the building. Originally called the W.B. Lewis Hospital at its opening reception in 1930, the building was most commonly known as the Lewis Memorial Hospital until 1976 when the name was changed to the Yosemite Medical Clinic to reflect a change in the type of treatment offered. The hospital was designed by John B. Wosky, National Park Service (NPS) landscape engineer, and adheres to the principles of the Rustic architecture style, incorporating local materials to harmonize with Yosemite's natural beauty. The building is associated with the construction of basic facilities in Yosemite Valley in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The Lewis Memorial Hospital is listed in the National Register of Historic Places (National Register) as a contributor to the Yosemite Valley Historic District.
