Health Hazard Evaluation Report HETA 95-0307-2602, Koester Equipment Company, Evansville, Indiana
This report presented the findings from a field survey conducted near Jasper, Indiana, during asphalt pavement construction (SIC-1611) along Interstate 64 in southern Indiana, as part of a larger study of asphalt paving. Koester Equipment Company applied 2,370 metric tons of crumb rubber modieifed (CRM) asphalt and 3,670 metric tons of conventional asphalt. The study indicated that asphalt fumes and other exposures were below current limits. The conventional asphalt formula contained 23% recycled asphalt pavement. Acute symptoms reported by workers were associated with asphalt paving exposures, and higher symptom prevalences were associated with CRM asphalt paving.
